From Historic First Hill to Modern Hospitality
Built in 1928 as the Rhododendron Apartments, The Inn at Virginia Mason began as part of the original Virginia Mason Hospital campus, designed by architect John S. Hudson in a historic revival style emblematic of 1920s Seattle. The elegant vertical form and original Rhododendron tile entryway reflected Hudson's vision of refined urban living, and the building once housed a lobby restaurant, a basement ballroom, and a tunnel linking it to The Baroness Hotel. In the early 20th century, First Hill was mostly apartment dwellers, and The Rhododendron embodied that vibrant residential character.

Virginia Mason Hospital acquired the property in the late 1960s, converting it into the Mason House Hotel which became short-term lodging for patients and families. The building underwent a major renovation in 1988 which transformed it into a 79-room, European-style hotel. Today, The Inn at Virginia Mason harmoniously blends its medical heritage with warm, heartfelt hospitality, acting as a haven for both patients and visitors seeking historic charm and classic comfort in Seattle's First Hill neighborhood.
